Kahawa Estate featured on ABC Radio National’s Rural Report

ABC Radio National’s Rural Report has been on the road meeting farmers who are producing food in some of the most beautiful places in Australia.

Miranda Saunders stopped to have a chat and cup of coffee with Jos Webber of Kahawa Estate Coffee to find out more about the Australian subtropical coffee industry.

Northern New South Wales provides an ideal location to grow premium coffee, swapping altitude for latitude to give the coffee a long slow ripening phase.

The local industry produces 500 tonnes of green bean, which has a value of $5 million and produces 50 million cups of coffee.  With this multiplication factor, Australian subtropical coffee has a value of more than $150 million, and that is just the coffee alone.
