Kahawa Estate: coffee plantation

About us

Kahawa Estate coffee plantation is located on the Alstonville Plateau in the Byron Bay hinterland, almost equidistant from Byron Bay, Ballina and Lismore in the Northern Rivers area of the far north coast of New South Wales, Australia.

Situated on fertile red volcanic soils and surrounded by remnant sub-tropical rainforest, the former avocado plantation was transformed into Kahawa Estate coffee plantation using the ‘K7’ variety of Coffea arabica, which originated from Kenya. We planted the first seedlings in November 2004, and a second planting was established in December 2008.

To reflect our African heritage and that of our beans, we have named our plantation Kahawa, which means coffee in the Swahili language of East Africa.

Our plantation has been producing premium quality beans since 2008. You can find our award winning coffee in selected retailers across Australia, in a cafe in Eden, at local markets in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, and for direct sale online via this website.

We are pleased to offer our award winning coffee for your enjoyment. We appreciate all the positive feedback and recommendations that we get from our satisfied customers around Australia.
